Résonance(s)
A timeless immersion into the heart of Roland-Garros
As discreet yet ever-present observers, the photographers are the cherished guardians of the history of the Roland-Garros tournament and stadium. Since 1928, this magnificent setting has been portrayed by passionate amateurs and professionals alike, capturing the very essence of the French Open.
The collections of Adolphe Morin, a former umpire, and Gil de Kermadec, a prolific film-maker and the first national technical director of the French Tennis Federation (FFT), allow us to immerse ourselves in the everyday world of the stadium and the tournament during the 1950s and 60’s. Their works provide a fascinating depiction of the evolution of Roland-Garros and its tournament over time.
Today, more than 110 photographers from all over the world and 15 FFT photographers flock to the fabled clay courts to document the highs and lows of the competition, the soul of a place, the purity of a gesture and the emotions it can inspire.
Conceived as a choreography of images through the ages, Résonance(s) pays tribute to the unique perspectives recorded during bygone decades at one of tennis world’s most emblematic venues.
